North Carolina Industrial Commission
The North Carolina Industrial Commission is the agency responsible for administering Workers’ Compensation claims across the state. Their mission is to make sure all parties involved in your claim are treated fairly, and that the stipulations of North Carolina Workers’ Compensation law are carried out properly.
The Commission handles over 63,000 claims, conducts over 1,800 hearings, hears more than 500 appeals, and processes tens of thousands of motions, orders and form approvals related to Workers’ Compensation claims each year.

North Carolina Industrial Commission Governing Body
The North Carolina Industrial Commission is governed by a Chairman and six Commissioners. The Chairman functions as the agency’s chief executive officer and chief judicial officer. Contested Workers’ Compensation claims are first heard by Deputy Commissioners, who act as judge. These hearings are conducted in every county in the state. If the Deputy Commissioner’s decision is appealed, the Chairman and Commissioners will then review your case.
If you are still not happy with the decision of the Full Commission, you may appeal your case twice more to the following judicial bodies:
- The North Carolina Court of Appeals
- The North Carolina Supreme Court
